Corten steel, 150 x 84 x 32cm
The weathered steel gives this work an industrial feeling, relating back to shipping and shipyards. The sculpture is about uneasy journeys, the skeletal boat symbolizing fragility. The ladders represent hope, a means of elevation out of a situation of hardship. This work is intended as a tribute to all those who have made the difficult journey by boat; it is my hope that we may find compassion to welcome those in need.
This work was created for Sculpture at Sawmillers 2014, located at McMahons Point on Sydney Harbor.
