Ascend 2014

The weathered steel gives this work an industrial feeling, relating back to shipping and shipyards. The sculpture is about uneasy journeys, the skeletal boat symbolizing fragility. The ladders represent hope, a means of elevation out of a situation of hardship. This work is intended as a tribute to all those who have made the difficult journey by boat; it is my hope that we may find compassion to welcome those in need.
