Di Vat / Reli – Collaboration with Clare Martin 2006
Di Vat / Relic was made during the 2006 Fourth International Sculpture Symposium in Hue. It is based on the historic car that carried the Buddhist monk Thích Quang Ðuc to Saigon in 1963, where he immolated himself to protest against the persecution of Buddhists during the American war in Vietnam. The sculpture, a life-sized replica of the car, made from cement and decorated with colourful mosaic tiles, is located on the banks of a lake west of Hue.
